Wisconsin Girls’ Rugby is looking to support a grassroots effort to add a high school girls’ rugby program at Nicolet High School. The effort is being led by students within the school and has the support of the athletic director.
In order to facilitate this growth, the league is looking for a team of adults (ideally three) who would be able to dedicate some time each week to this program.
The league’s spring 7s series takes place in April/May and the 15s season takes place in September/October. Most teams practice for about two hours, three days a week. Coaches could divide this the time commitment among the staff.
While an experienced coach is ideal, those new to coaching are encouraged to apply. The league is willing to work with the coaches to prepare for the season and will work with them to get this program off the ground. The team will be willing to work around any schedule and experience level, so no one should let that stop them from inquiring.
Nicolet already has an established boys’ program who are willing to build a partnership with this new program. They practice at Kletszch Park and play at Good Hope School. Nicolet is currently working through plans to develop a new athletic complex which, according to their website, includes space for rugby.
